Careers Exploration Class Learns About Future Professional Paths

Students visit Whole Foods Market, New England School of Photography

The Beacon High School Career Exploration class has been busy this past month, visiting several area businesses and organizations to learn about potential professional opportunities after graduation. Most recently the group ventured to Whole Foods Market and the New England School of Photography.

At Whole Foods Market in Cambridge, students heard about professions in the food and marketing industries and saw how many employees ‘live’ the Whole Foods philosophy. They also learned about the process for labeling certain foods ‘organic’ and ‘all-natural’.

Last week, students received a special guided tour at the New England School of Photography where they saw the digital labs in action and learned about many different careers in photography. They saw NESOP students preparing images for advertisements and setting up a photo shoot for an upcoming documentary.

These visits, as well as earlier trips to Mount Auburn Hospital and the State House in Boston, were coordinated by Beacon High School teacher Frank Tassone. The Careers Exploration class is designed to provide students with a firsthand look at the many career possibilities that exist for them after their graduation from Beacon.
