Community Service
The Beacon High School Guidance Department can help students find volunteer opportunities that will fulfill graduation requirements* while introducing students to brand new interests and opportunities through community service. Volunteering offers all of us an opportunity to enrich our own lives while improving the lives of others, but providing community service through volunteer work is also a way for students build skills and improve their ability to interact with new people in unfamiliar settings.
While gaining valuable work experience, student volunteers can also discover a new career path or life-long personal interest. Even if a student’s career interests differ from his or her community service work, volunteering offers the chance to learn and develop critical skills that will help in any field: team work, time management, communication, and planning. Community service can strengthen your résumé!
The Beacon High School Community Service Guide is a collection of potential volunteer positions and includes contact information. It is organized by town and organization type, so look for opportunities that interest you in locations near where you live or near Beacon High School. If you have had a positive volunteer experience that is not on this list, please let us know so we can improve the guide!
To document your community service hours, please use the Beacon High School Community Service Verification Form. It is important to document community service carefully for your future use for job references, your résumé, college applications.
* Community service will soon be a graduation requirement at Beacon. More information about this new requirement will soon be available. Check this page for updates.
