Lights! Camera! Action! Beacon Students Visit WBZ!
Continuing their series of visits to area businesses, the Beacon High School Career Exploration class recently toured the broadcast studio and offices of the Boston CBS affiliate WBZ.
The students were treated to a fascinating tour of the TV studios and radio station, and they learned about the many aspects of broadcasting, including the production, sales, and promotion of TV news and other programs. Students were impressed by the state-of-the art broadcast technology and the large number of job opportunities available at a news station.
TV news director Lisa Bumbaca led the tour and spoke to the class about how she got her start in the industry out of college, and how much it has changed over the last few years. She answered many of the students’ questions, and also set up question-and-answer sessions with anchors Paula Ebben and David Wade.
The students also got the chance to spend some time on the TV set where the daily news is broadcast, and later attended a live production of ‘Keller at Large’ the popular program that focuses on Boston-area politics.
